The Homes mission is the relief of suffering through the provision of friendly, low cost accommodation for patients and their carers coming to Melbourne for hospital treatment.
The Homes are located in Ivanhoe, about 9 kilometres north of the Melbourne city centre close to shopping, transport and community facilities.
The Homes provide accommodation for patients and their carers from rural Victoria, interstate and overseas who are attending any hospital within the Melbourne Metropolitan area for treatment. A number of Melbourne hospitals are less than 10 kilometres from the Homes.
The Homes is run by the Ryder-Cheshire Victorian Homes Foundation Inc which is an incorporated not-for-profit association registered under Victorian and Australian legislation.
The committee members of the foundation are responsible for the governance of the Homes and they give their time on a voluntary basis. Like all Ryder-Cheshire Homes, we are independent and totally self-governing, with no religious or ideological affiliations. The Ivanhoe Homes does not receive any government funding. We are grateful to many service clubs, church groups and individuals for their generous financial support.
The Homes are part of the world-wide mission of the late Group Captain Lord Cheshire VC, and his wife, the late Baroness Sue Ryder, who devoted their lives to the relief of human suffering.
The Homes has 43 self-contained studio apartments, spread across three buildings, set in peaceful garden surrounds. Each apartment contains two or three single beds, an en-suite bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette.
Meals and nursing services are not provided.
ELIGIBILITY
The patient must live more than 100 kilometres (one way) from the treating hospital they are attending. The Homes Management may provide discretion where the patient does not meet the 100 kilometre distance limit.
Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to stay unless they are the patient.

RESOURCES
DONATE
The Homes receives no government funding and is financed entirely through its own efforts and the generous support of Caring Friends. The Ryder-Cheshire Victorian Homes Foundation, which runs the Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Homes, is a fully registered not-for-profit organisation and donations of $2 and over made to The Homes are tax deductible.
BEQUEST
A bequest left as part of a will support the Homes. As there are no paid fund raisers and collectors and a totally voluntary committee, donations and bequests are used fully for the purpose of maintaining the vital work and facilities at the home which ultimately improves the lives of patients and carers who stay with us.
